Hi everyone, my name is Michelle (pronounced mee-chell). I immigrated from Mexico to California as a child, and have only lived outside of California for the past year and a half, specifically in Sedona, Arizona. I'll be moving to the Bay Area in pursuit of an MA/MFA (dual program) at the California Institute of Integral Studies (East-West Psychology and Interdisciplinary Arts).

During my bachelor's I studied Cognitive Science, emphasizing language and culture, spending hours performing analysis on footage of orangutans, gibbons, human children. My essential interest is the question of Consciousness. My interests have expanded beyond pure materialism into the Phenomenological realm. I am drawn towards interdisciplinarity, pluralism, syncretism, occult and ancient systems, being, and the study of the Soul. Lately I've engaged in ritual practices, internal martial arts, dance, singing, and instruments.

I've no experience with video and am starting an online presence from scratch for this residency. I am hoping to create daily for PDKU while coming from a place of sincerity, authenticity, and intuition. If it feels natural, I am also envisioning the creation of simple, participatory work that focuses on experience and process. If I absolutely had to battle a kangaroo, I would use the constriction/snake fighting style and wrap myself around the kangaroo until it submits.
